One of SoCal's most coveted professional golf events is set to resume in November
hat was once a
great Southern
California golf
tradition has been all but
forgotten the past
few years.
But thanks to
Monarch Beach
Golf Links, the
SoCal Open will no
longer be a thing of the
past when it returns to
glory this November 4-6.
"The event was in hibernation the past few years,"
says Eric Lohman, Monarch
Beach PGA General Manager. "We are bringing it
back this year and hope to
return its status as a showcase event."
The tournament, open to

FORMAT: 54-hole stroke play

all professionals and amateurs with a 2.4 index or less,
will kick off with a Pro-Am
at Monarch Beach on November 3. The proceeds will
benefit the Southern California PGA Foundation and its
grant and scholarship programs for junior golfers.
The following day, the
2013 Oakley SoCal Open
will commence with half
of the 180-player field at
Monarch Beach and the
other half at Arroyo Trabuco
Golf Club in Mission Viejo
competing for an anticipated
purse of $50,000.
The players will then
switch courses for the second round of play, with the
low 60 and ties advancing to
the final round at Monarch
Beach on November 6.
"The tournament has been
around since as early as the
1910s, so we thought it
would be cool to bring it
back and give players a
chance to call themselves the
champion golfer of Southern
California," Lohman said.
Monarch Beach is host to the final
round of the 2013 Oakley SoCal Open.
