7 • Monarch BeachComber | Summer Edition T his summer has been a hit for the Junior Golf Camps at Monarch Beach Golf Links. The sold-out pro- grams are administered by Monarch Beach's PGA-certified coaches, and participants learn fundamentals such as putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing with woods and irons. But they also take part in enter- taining activities and golf-styled games, such as tic-tac-toe, leap- frog, frisbee golf and hitting into pools and nets. "Our No. 1 goal is fun," said Monarch Beach's PGA Director of Player Development Jackie Riegle. "Golf at a young age can be frustrat- ing, so we want kids to learn without getting upset if they aren't hitting the ball as well as some of the other campers. We use squishy, colorful golf-like balls so each junior has their own color and they can learn and play safely." The camps, which run through mid-August, are designed for novice players and are based on the Ameri- can Development Model, an effort by the United States Olympic Com- mittee to provide age-appropriate guidelines and curriculum for the golf industry to help more kids have fun playing, excelling, and develop- ing a lifelong love of the game. While Monarch Beach's summer camps filled up quickly, there are more opportunities on tap for jun- iors in the near future. A Thanksgiving Week Junior Golf Camp will take place November 22- 24, and Holiday Junior Camps are set for December 20-22 and De- cember 27-29. Each camp will be limited to the first 18 participants and run from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Open to boys and girls ages 6-15, the fee is $375 per golfer and includes golf instruction, snacks, water and all the equipment needed. "Campers get to expand and grow their golf skills in a safe and fun environment," Riegle added. ................................................... > CLICK HERE to view the Junior Golf Schedule and learn more about 2021 Junior Camps.
