The Retail Merchandise Manager at Monarch Beach brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the job

ourtney Cantwell
brings plenty of
experience and
know-how to her posi-
tion as Retail Merchan-
dise Manager at Monarch
Beach Golf Links.
Prior to being hired
last summer, she worked
in retail at another Five
Star-Five Diamond golf
resort, where she became
accustomed to a higher
level of service and guest
standards. She also has
worked as a merchan-
diser, sales supervisor
and a buyer for a high-
end boutique.
A former student of
Penn State University
and The Fashion Insti-
tute of Design and Mer-
chandising, Cantwell's
job is to run the golf re-
tail store at Monarch
Beach, where she's in
charge of receiving new
products, keeping an eye
on inventory, re-ordering
hot items, following in-
dustry trends and over-
seeing the merchandising.

What do you like most
about your job?
I get to apply all of my
retail and merchandising
experience into a career
that I love.
What are some qualities
of a great Retail Mer-
chandise Manager?
Creative thinking, an-
ticipating your guests'
needs, being approach-
able and knowing what
is going to sell and look
good on your guests.
Merchandising and pres-
entation is something
that is important to me
because it will make our
golf retail and lifestyle
store look nice and fresh
when we re-merchan-
dise. We have a lot of
members and resort
guests, so we try not to
have the shop look the
same for too long.
What industry trends do
you see emerging in '14?
I have noticed that
many of our apparel
vendors are branding
themselves and creating
collections that are more
lifestyle based than
strictly golf-centric, such
as our friends from Oak-
ley, Travis Mathew,
LinkSoul and Matte
Grey. I am seeing a re-
turn to cotton, cashmere,
and even denim. The
brands that are known
for being more sporty
with all of the tech fab-
rics are still as popular as
ever, and their collec-
tions are based on
