W hen it comes to finding a great all-around golf resort, there are many factors for guests to consider. Location, service, and unique amenities are just a few of the areas that make The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort stand out – and make a visit to the property a cool and memorable experience. And it starts with the staff, all of whom were either born and raised in Orange County or sought out this area to call home. "In their own unique way, our staff members celebrate the positive vibe of our sleepy beach towns," said Monarch Beach Golf Links PGA General Man- ager Eric Lohman, "and they embrace the beach culture while respecting the game of golf." In addition to the staff, one of the top features at Monarch Beach Golf Links is its location and ocean views. "Monarch Beach is one of just nine golf properties in California that has a hole running adjacent to the ocean," said Lohman. "And you can see the Pacific Ocean at some point from all 18 holes on the golf course." On a clear day, golfers also can see all the way to Catalina Island, which sits roughly 35 miles due west of the prop- erty. It's visible 200-plus days a year, and especially so when the Santa Ana winds are blowing offshore. On the grounds of the property, visi- tors can find herb farms and beehives, as well as goats at a nearby dairy farm – all of which contribute to the restaurant's farm-to-table con- cept, with goat cheese, honey, and a variety of herbs used daily. Monarch Beach also has two new butterfly sanctuaries, where visi- tors will most likely spot the name- sake Monarch butterfly. And best of all, visitors can take a tram ride around the entire prop- erty for easy accessibility. Another way Monarch Beach goes above and beyond is by creat- ing original experiences. One way they do this is by host- ing "Pineapple Fridays" every week, where the clubhouse, restau- rant, and golf shop are decked out in Hawaiian-themed décor. Island music is playing throughout, and staff members pass out freshly cut Maui pineapple to guests. Monarch Beach also features a "Monarch of the Day" program, in which a valued Crown Club member or St. Regis Resort guest is randomly se- lected as the recipient of an entire day of C O N T I N U E D ❯❯ COOL FACTOR STYLE POINTS Accommodating staff, ocean views, and many perks make Monarch Beach a hip place to play 5 / Monarch BeachComber • Summer 2015
